Sunday, October 7 will be a day of hands-on learning for all levels of experience and all budgets. We will be offering deep-dive workshops in several print mediums, which are now available for registration via the below links!

We will also be offering a program of casual drop-in demos throughout the day for those with limited time and/or budgets! Scroll down to the bottom of the page for more.

Monoprint & Image Transfer Workshop

Sunday, October 7th, 2018

9:00 AM - Noon

The Wherehouse - 305 South Texas Street

In this workshop, students will learn multiple techniques for monoprinting and image transfer. We will begin class with several demos covering trace monotype, collagraph, monoprinting and more. We will discuss ways of building layers within a print using multiple techniques and each student will have time to experiment at the press. Students are encouraged to bring any interesting materials they would like to try printing with, including mesh, thin fabric or string, textured material, paper, paint, ink, etc. This is a hands on experimental class, so come ready to get your hands dirty!
This class will be taught by local printmaker Jamie Karolich of Power and Light Press.

$50 per person

Introduction to Letterpress Workshop

Sunday, October 7th, 2018

9 AM - Noon

Power and Light Press - 601 N. Bullard Street Unit F

In this workshop, participants will learn about the past and present history of wood type, set compositions of their own choosing, and learn to print using our vintage Showcard sign press or Challenge proof press. Each attendee will leave with a stack of 15 posters of their own design!

This class will be taught by local printer Natalie Good and held at Power and Light Press.

$50 per person

Zine Making Workshop

Sunday, October 7th, 2018

12:30 - 3:30 PM

In this workshop, participants will learn the ins and outs of zines and leave with a booklet of their own making. Participants will use a photocopier, collage, and an array of mixed media to create a zine of their own envisioning!

This fun and laid-back workshop will be led by Matthew Garza of the Rio Sangre Print Collective in Las Cruces, NM.

$20 per person

Screen Printing Workshop

Sunday, October 7th, 2018

12:30 - 3:30 PM

The Wherehouse - 305 South Texas Street

In this workshop, students will learn how to make low-tech silkscreen prints at home without chemicals or special equipment! Participants will make hand-cut stencils using wax paper and will learn the essentials of screen printing production, history, and many varied applications.

This class will be taught by Jeik Ficker of Tanline Printing in Tucson, AZ.

$50 per person

Drypoint Intaglio Workshop

Western New Mexico University Printshop in the McCray Fine Arts Building - map

In this workshop, students will explore drypoint intaglio using plexiglass plates. In this method, the plate is not chemically etched but instead is manually scratched in such a way that produces a raised “burr” that grabs ink and produces a characteristically soft and velvety line.

This class will be taught by local printmaker Manda Clair Jost and held at the Western New Mexico University printshop.

$50 per person

This year, we are excited to offer a program of casual drop-in sessions in a variety of print media, for those with limited time and/or budgets! A $15 access pass will get you into up to 6 sessions around town, including solar printing, book binding, 3D printing, photogravure, wintergreen transfer, and our always-popular street printing! These sessions will be offered in an open-house format from 10am-1pm at various locations around town.
